Strengthening nuclear emergency readiness by identifying response capabilities and guiding future action
The objective of the project was to examine the resources and expertise available to respond to nuclear or radiological emergencies likely to occur in the Arctic region, and propose a way forward for any identified gaps. This project was a follow-up to EPPR Radiation Expert Group's project on Arctic radiological and nuclear risk assessment, that delivered a report identifying the risks associated to materials and activities which may lead to radiological or nuclear emergencies in the Arctic. Once potential risks were identified, the next step was to analyze the existing capabilities within the Arctic States to mitigate these risks in case of a radiological or nuclear emergency in the Arctic. The Capabilities summary report includes a risk profile with identified capabilities and gaps to be resolved in order to effectively and efficiently respond to a radiological or nuclear emergency in the Arctic.
